Seaweed! Yes, seaweed! Ok so it’s not new, and you have probably tried dried seaweed chips, seaweed wrapped in our sushi, or seaweed salads… but have you ever stopped to really think about the health benefits of seaweed?? One of natures perhaps oldest and most nutritious superfoods- seaweed is naturally gluten free, vegan, and packed with:
– minerals such as iron (much needed for my fellow ladies!), calcium, magnesium, iodine (helps maintain a healthy thyroid!)
– vitamins such as vitamin c
And also has anti-inflammatory properties to just name a few of the incredible benefits that make it a superfood!
My friends over at The Sea of Change Trading Company are working hard to harvest edible seaweeds off the coast of Northern California and share nature’s bountiful superfood with the rest of us. Some of their products include Seaweed snacks (garden vegetable is my favorite!!), seaweed salt (awesome on brown rice dishes), chocolate (yes chocolate and seaweed!) and super blend seaweed powder which I am currently experimenting with in my smoothies but would be great in breads, soups and salads too!
For me, since I have struggled with iron deficiency anemia for the last couple of years, I am always searching for natural high-iron sources, and seaweed is absolutely a wonderful one! If you are concerned about getting enough iron in your diet, I strongly recommend looking into seaweed to supplement your iron as a natural source.

*Smoothie recipe for above:
– 2 cups spinach
– 3/4 frozen banana
– 1/2 cup frozen mango
– 1/2 cup almond or coconut milk
– 1 tbs wild seaweed super blend
Top with anything! My faves include: kiwi, almonds, chia seeds, gojiberries, and almond butter 😉 Enjoy!
